After talking, talking, talking about running my first half-marathon, I have officially registered for it! The Rock & Roll Half in Philadelphia on Sept. 18. I know that's so far away, but summer is hot and I have this little thing called my wedding in August, which is sucking up a lot of my free time.
I've heard mixed reviews about Rock & Rolls--I know they're super crowded, but I just needed something local and after August 20, and this fit the bill. I printed out this insane training program from Runners World. Not insane as in "difficult" or "tough" but insane in that it's a 25 week training program (hey, I like to be prepared) and I've actually already in week 5.
I would love to hear other people's first half experiences and thoughts on Rock & Roll races in general.
Woohooo!!! The hardest part of running a HM is done- getting the guts to register!!! Every time I don't feel like running, I think about that $50/75/100 I spent that I refuse to eat- it's great incentive!!
ReplyDeleteI have no experience with RnR runs, although after November 5, I will. But that wont help you at all =) BUT I'm a firm believer that the bigger your first race is, the better experience you'll have. Trust me, you'll need the energy of the crowd and the other runners.
I ran my first half in December, and my goal was to just finish it and have fun. It was such a great experience that I've run another half and have one on the horizon. The key is to have fun though. If you're having fun, nothing else matters.
I've done two RnRs and I loved both of them. They put on a VERY well organized race with plenty of hydration stations, great volunteers, and decent crowd support. Their corral system helps with the crowd control. I think this is a wise choice for your first half! Can't wait to read about your training! =)
